Analysis of Australia’s Fiscal Vulnerability to Crisis

Fiscal vulnerability, like a contagion, poses threat to financial sector stability, which can lead towards sovereign default. This study aimed assess fiscal vulnerability crisis by investigating the Australian economy’s gross public debt, net and liabilities. We used threshold regression model compared results with baseline deficit–debt framework of analysis. The base suggested that economy is fiscally sustainable, primary surplus remains unaffected increasing levels debt. In contrast, indicated level debt has eroded below 30.89% GDP. These need further investigation. Therefore, we modified our basic capture budget deficit as in response changes from sequential using GDP ratio identifying periods 1991, 1992, 2008, 2009, 2011 2019 times likely crisis. overall confirmed remained sustainable over estimated all other sample these findings persisted across alternative measures
